A New Lincoln High School: Voters Approve $60 Million Renovation

After many years of arguing, planning, and uncertainty, voters in the town of Lincoln approved a $60 million renovation to the fifty year old Lincoln High School. I attended a Town Council meeting in which the plan was discussed, looked over many documents and plans for timing, and spoke with our principal to write this article about the landmark renovation and what it will entail.

The Demanding Life of an AP Student

High school isn't easy for anyone. Students have to juggle extracurriculars, homework, jobs, and social lives, all while preparing for college and getting enough sleep to stay sane. AP students have the added pressure of throwing a college-level course on top of all of that. Through many interviews, lots of research, and a poll of LHS AP students, this article shows us how they do it. Published in the October 2016 issue of The Lion's Roar.

Do LHS's Internet Filters Really Get The Job Done?

This was written in my sophomore year in response to the realization that many websites that were vital to the well-being of students and their education were blocked by our school's web filters. Students could not access websites relating to LGBTQ rights, Planned Parenthood, or (upon further research and teacher interviews) sites relating to Buddhism. Through many interviews with school administrators and IT officials, and through research on web filters and what they do, I wrote this piece (which actually wound up getting these filters removed).

Do We Have Time For Sex Ed?

This was written when research into our health curriculum and state standards led to the realization that not every student felt as though they were receiving an adequate sex education at LHS. Upon further research, it became clear that the reason for that wasn't an unwillingness to teach it, but rather a significant lack of time to do so. Published in the November 2017 issue of The Lion's Roar.

To ACT or Not to ACT? That is the Question Juniors Ask

This was written and published in the April 2017 issue of The Lion’s Roar. That month, every high school junior in the state of Rhode Island took the SAT, paid for by the state. Through research and a poll of LHS students, this compares the ACT and the SAT.

Serving Outside the Lincoln Community

While not the strongest or most typical news piece, this article was written in response to many LHS students wondering where they could find opportunities to do their community service. I researched popular nearby attractions and looked into what students could do to help. Since this article's publication in the November 2016 issue of The Lion's Roar, students have come up to me saying that they found this piece to be very useful to them in their quest to complete the community service graduation requirement.
